Life begins at the end of your comfort zone

In 5 days time I will be on a (very large) plane to the other side of the world; to live, study and travel in a country thousands of miles away from home..for half a year.

A few months ago I was offered a place to study psychology at an Australian University for a semester. What an awesome opportunity! How could I possibly say no!? Australia is somewhere I’ve always wanted to go, so actually being able to live there is beyond exciting!!

How do I feel right now? …a combination of nervous and excited. I’m currently surrounded by a sea of summer clothes, sun cream (factor 50 of course.. I’m pale) and bags, in a semi successful attempt at packing. Packing away all my things is certainly making it all feel a bit more real. The thought of being so far away from all that’s familiar – friends, family, home – is rather daunting. I would be lying if I said I haven’t had the odd wobbly patch where I’ve doubted everything and questioned why on earth I am doing this! Because I have; more so over the last few days as it’s getting closer and closer to leaving and I’ve been saying goodbye to people. It’s scary. However, I already know that it’s going to be so so worth it. A real adventure and an unforgettable experience. What I’m feeling now is totally natural.

People often feel the New Year brings new opportunities, a chance to try something new. But in fact opportunities come up all the time. Sometimes we have to search and work hard for them, but they are always out there. It’s so easy to get a bit too comfortable in our lives and own little routines. So comfortable and secure that we get stuck in our ways and never end up trying anything new. But change is good. Change is healthy. It might be scary, but if you never dare to try new things, you’ll never know what could happen next… it may be the best decision you’ll ever make.

So I encourage you to go for it! Try that thing you’ve always wanted to try, do that thing you’ve always wanted to do. Step out of your comfort zone and see where it takes you. Just stay true to yourself and what you believe in, grow, and go with the flow. Who knows where you’ll end up!

A slightly shorter post this time, but I just wanted to let you know where I’m at and what exciting things await me. The current plan is to fly out to Auckland (New Zealand) and travel around North Island with a close friend of mine for just over 2 weeks. Then fly over to Aus in early February, to live and study in Sydney until June. Then travel up the East coast to Cairns before my flight back to the UK at the end of July.

Please share/follow to keep up to date with what happens on my adventure. I’ll try to write as much as I can. For more regular updates and photos go check out our instagram

And if you’ve stepped out of your comfort zone recently, or got something exciting planned then I’d love to hear all about it! x
